Course Summary

In this comprehensive introduction to Typography, you will learn how the art of manipulating the visual form of language, both enriches and controls its meaning.

An integral part of modern graphic design, typography is rich in rules, conventions and esoteric terminology, but remains an exciting field for invention and expression – even moreso in the modern age of content, where creating beautiful typography is easier than ever before.

In this course you will learn to:

  • Study, name and measure the characteristics of letterform
  • Consider practical means of selecting and combining type
  • Discuss best-practice and proven conventions when setting type
  • Explore the expressive nature and meaning orientated potential of type

Please note that this is not a software based course.

Course requirements:

A basic working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, or other page layout software will be assumed.

It is highly recommended you have access to a computer and page layout software such as InDesign  in order to complete assignments between class.
