Course Summary

This is a 2-day weekend workshop where students will learn the basics in screen printing. The course will cover how to make designs using cut outs, oil pastels, photographic stencils and block out to print onto fabric, clothing or paper. The pace is fast and furious but by the end of the two days, students will have produced multiple screen-printed designs onto clothing/fabric or paper as either a single colour print or a multi coloured print.

This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals in screen printing which are:

  • How to prepare a screen and print table area
  • How to plan a print
  • How to make the stencils required
  • What are the correct inks to use and their application
  • How to clean, care and work in a communal workshop
  • How to print
  • How to clean and care for a screen
  • How to cure fabric ink & care for your printed materials

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the layering application and mixing of inks
  • Create different stencils on a screen to produce different designs
  • Make screen prints using the following stencil techniques: cut outs, oil pastels directly on the screen, block out drawing fluid and photo graphic methods
  • Understand how to plan a multi coloured screen-prints
  • Understand how to use different stencil techniques to achieve different designs
  • Produce prints onto material /home wares/ paper of a high quality

This course is held at Ola Cohn Centre 41-43 Gipps St East Melbourne.

Students will be required to bring the following materials to class:

  • Brown parcel tape/packing tape (4-5cm wide)
  • Masking tape
  • Apron
  • Craft knife or blade or Stanley knife
  • Ideas and designs
  • Drawing materials to plan out designs such as pencils, pens, paper
  • Students can bring their own fabric , paper etc. to print onto if they choose
  • There may be additional cost to depending on individual projects
  • Newspaper is useful throughout the course – but not essential.

Notification of a class cancellation will be advised 48 hours prior to the course commencement date. We advise to purchase your materials once you have received email confirmation that your class is proceeding as scheduled. All efforts are made to ensure that our classes proceed to avoid disappointment.
