Students will learn how to custom frame a piece of artwork or photograph.  Experienced picture framer Nic Burridge covers frame-making, mat cutting, glass-cutting demonstration and fitting ready to hang.

The tutor will demonstrate a variety of framing methods, including:

Conservation framing (Framing to help protect and preserve artworks)

Learn how to choose framing that will enhance your artwork

Mat board cutting (including single, multiple window and double mats)

Frame cutting and joining

Glass cutting.

Please note: Picture framing materials for the course will need to be purchased after week 1 from a local supplier. Students can expect to spend around $100-$150 on these materials.

The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to make your own picture frames at home.  If this is of interest a suitable hobby toolkit will cost from between $250-$500.

Students will learn how to use a process that can be applied at home, creating your own designs and style. Participants are given the opportunity to learn how to professionally frame an art work, and the considerations usually adopted for a pleasing result.

About Nicholas Burridge

Nicholas Burridge completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash and is a practicing contemporary artist. Nic works across many mediums including painting, photography and sculpture. For several years arts practice has been complemented by working as a picture framer. Starting out as a self-taught picture framer Burridge refined his skills working for Omnus Framing in Fitzroy. He has a keen interest in conservation framing combined with fine woodworking resulting in truly unique and custom picture frames. He has recently broadened his skill set through his work as an art fabricator at Fundere Foundry and Sculpture Company.

All additional materials for this class will be discussed in the first session.  Materials will cost between $150-180.
