Course Summary

Students will learn how to custom frame a piece of artwork or photograph.  Experienced picture framer Rafael Bieber covers frame-making, mat cutting, glass-cutting demonstration and fitting ready to hang.  Techniques applied in class can easily be replicated at home with basic equipment.

The tutor will demonstrate a variety of framing methods, including:

Conservation framing (Framing to help protect and preserve artworks)

Learn how to choose framing that will enhance your artwork

Mat board cutting (including single, multiple window and double mats)

Frame cutting and joining

Glass cutting.

Students will learn how to use a process that can be done at home, creating your own designs and style. Participants are given the opportunity to learn how to professionally frame an art work, and the considerations usually adopted for a pleasing result.

Rafael Bieber's love of photography from an early age led him to learn the craft of picture framing.  He has continued to work in this field ever since, using his expertise to assist individuals with design and styles to suit their needs.  Rafael has a wonderfully patient teaching style ideally suited to CAE learners.

A picture you would like to frame, approximately A4 in size or less.

Notebook, pen and pencil to take notes.

Additional materials for this class will be discussed in the first session, costs are likely to be from $60, depending on personal preferences. Please note that the larger the work the more expensive the materials will be.
