Course Summary

This one-day course offers students hands-on experience in using their own overlocker to its fullest capacity. Learn all aspects of overlocker including threading, tension adjustment, seams and hems. BYO overlocker.

This course covers general overlocker advice and maintenance, threading (scratch/pull through), altering tension details, altering stitch width and length, differential feed, starting and finishing seams, corners (inner/outer), circles and ovals starting and stopping, rib application, elastic application, rolled hems and flat locking.

Students will be able to maintain and work their overlocker expertly, using various settings for different applications. You will be able to use your overlocker in a variety of situations without the added expense of attachments. This class is suitable for students who have their own overlocker at home or who have recently purchased the machine and would like further knowledge about its operation.

Students must bring their own overlocker and all the tools and attachments, as well as the instruction booklet. Please make sure your overlocker has been serviced and is in good working order.

Also please bring:

  • Overlocker threads:
    • 1 Green
    • 1 Blue
    • 1 Red
    • 1 Yellow
  • Sharp scissors (fabric and thread cutters)
  • Needles – bring spare needles for overlocker
  • Fabrics – 30 cm poly/cotton striped fabric (woven or stretch fabric)
  • 50 cm cotton, poly/cotton woven fabric or calico
  • 20 cm sheer (organza or similar weight)
  • Notebook and pen
