Course Summary

Adobe Illustrator is a wonderful tool for those keen on developing fashion artwork and presentation for personal, study or industry purposes. You will be introduced to basic program tool functions, interface, file management, fashion technical drawing, colour and print techniques and presenting your designs.

Week 1 
Introduction to Illustrator work space – tools available, layout of workspace and how to manage files. 
Use the pen tool to create lines and curves, add and remove anchor points and manipulate line using handles handles, alter the appearance of a line and change the colouring of a shape.

Week 2
Manage layers to utalise a template.
Draw a basic t-shirt and skirt/shorts using shapes created by a pen tool; cut and join lines to draw a garment. 

Week 3
Explore how to create a basic pattern repeat to apply to the garment.
Create a brush to apply gathering and stitching to a garment.

Week 4 
Combine skills and create a style board of line drawings with colouring.

Lauren Ritchie is a passionate dressmaker and educator.  She graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor of Fashion Design and Deakin University with a Graduate Diploma in Education. Lauren has taught at universities and TAFE around Melbourne. You can see some of her work at Two Sewing Sisters alongside other freelance projects.
