Course Summary

French: Elementary 5 is a course ideal for people who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the French language and culture and who want to communicate with friends, family members, colleagues and people in the local community or in countries where French is spoken.

Students will learn to understand and converse in French on general topics such as:

  • Talking about past events using passé-composé;
  • Explaining the reasons and the aims of an action or decision;
  • Comparing and characterizing people and objects (colors, shapes, etc.)
  • Describing different types of accommodations;
  • Prepositions of place: sous, sur, devant, etc.
  • Using pronouns: direct object pronouns to avoid repetitions;
  • Pronunciation: the liaisons.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Express opinions and feelings;
  • Talk about their past and past events in general;
  • Describe and compare people and objects;
  • Enquire about renting or buying a house or an apartment;
  • Talk about languages in Europe;
  • Discuss life changes: city vs. country life

French Elementary 4 or equivalent of about 70 hours of previous study.

IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.

N.B. CAE withdrawal policy does not allow for refund or transfer once the course has started in the event that the level of the class is not suitable.
