Course Summary

The course is designed to facilitate conversations and to consolidate students’ previous learning in Spanish. The course is conversation-based, thus opportunities are constantly created for students to interact with each other in Spanish. It will be conducted in a friendly and encouraging manner.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Giving advice
  • Talking about moods and emotional states
  • Expressing wishes and desires using present subjunctive
  • Looking for a job and talking about work conditions
  • Reading and understanding the news (simple past and past perfect tenses)
  • Indirect speech
  • Talking about the duration of a current activity
  • Talking about cinema and hobbies
  • Expressing likes, dislikes and opinions about social issues

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • engage in conversations and exchange information about the present, past actions, recurrent actions and circumstances in the past, future actions and predictions, likes, dislikes, social issues, news, work conditions and wishes for the future;
  • give advice to others;
  • express opinions about hobbies and social issues;
  • understand written and spoken news;
  • express wishes;
  • report information using indirect speech;
  • look for a job and discuss work conditions;
  • write about relatively complex topics such as work conditions, social issues, plans, past actions, cultural differences, future actions and predictions, recurrent actions and circumstances in the past, advice, personal opinions and news.

Spanish: Elementary 5, or the equivalent of approximately 90 hours of previous study.

IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.

N.B. CAE withdrawal policy does not allow for refund or transfer once the course has started in the event that the level of the class is not suitable.
