Be taught by industry professionals and experienced teachers to develop writing and editing skills across a
range of fiction, non-fiction and industry specific units. CAE has also developed an innovative online program for selected units.
Diploma of Professional Writing & Editing 21675VIC
Gain the skills and knowledge to work as professional writer and editor. There is a wide range of vocational
opportunity for writing and editing - including technical writing , corporate writing, writing in electronic media,
speechwriting, educational writing , creative writing, journalism, copy editing, structural editing and publishing.
Employment possibilities range from paid positions within the publishing, corporate or educational industries to
freelance work as either writer or editor. Many graduates combine their writing and editing with teaching or other public sector employment.
2010 Enrolment Opportunity - Industry Overview
Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing 21674VIC
The aim of Industry Overview is to introduce learners to the core skills and knowledge required to develop and apply an
understanding of the writing, editing and publishing industries. Including professional issues such as legal and OHS,
and an understanding of a range of writing and editing occupations.

Course Schedule
Thursdays, 16 September - 25 November 2010 (no class on 23 & 30 September)
5-9pm (classroom delivery) and 1 hour weekly online chat session (TBA).
Industry Overview is a subject cluster of the following core units in the Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing 21674VIC:
- CUFGEN01A - Develop and apply industry knowledge
- CUFGEN02A - Identify industry laws and regulations and apply them to workplace activities
- CUSADMA08A - Address copyright requirements
- BSBCMN311A - Maintain workplace safety
- BSBADM034A - Design and develop text documents
Entry Requirements
Currently CAE offers Certificate IV and Diploma level courses requiring reading and writing skills of a
high standard. Successful applicants will demonstrate these skills through a folio of writing, evidence
of previous studies and employment and/or writing experience.

With the application form please include a current Curriculum Vitae and Folio of Writing as defined below.
Folio of Writing
- three different pieces of writing (no more than 1000 words each). These could include creative writing
or non-fiction writing (eg. story, script, article, academic or business writing).
- With each of the three pieces of writing please include a reflection (approx 300 words) on the
writing process (eg. purpose, audience, source of idea, research, redrafting, etc.)
(Please do not send handwritten work or whole manuscripts. Attachments will not be returned).
For applications via email please include each writing piece as a single Microsoft Word or PDF file attachment.
Additional costs
Students are required to have access to a computer and printer, to purchase a number of text books and to
attend performances or readings for some subjects.

of how much or how little recognition you wish to undertake. By eliminating or reducing the attendance of classes and
workshops the Skills Recognition process will save you both time and money. This will lead to you gaining your qualification
