Japanese: Script and Pronunciation

Course Summary

Start learning Japanese with a focused introduction to its writing systems and pronunciation. This course guides beginners step-by-step through hiragana, katakana, basic kanji, and pronunciation. Designed for adults new to Japanese or wanting extra support with reading, this course builds core language skills for travel, study, or work in Japan.

Course Objectives and Structure:

• Identify and write hiragana and katakana characters.

• Practice pronunciation and intonation for clear spoken Japanese.

• Read basic Japanese words and sentences.

• Develop strategies for learning kanji systematically.

• Discover the cultural significance of Japanese scripts.

Learning Outcomes:

• Recognise, pronounce, and write Japanese syllabaries.

• Read and pronounce common words and phrases.

• Build confidence in both written and spoken Japanese.
