French Elementary 2 is an 18-hour course for beginners. The content of the course has been selected to suit prospective travellers, people wanting to interact socially with the French-speaking community both in Melbourne and overseas or those who would like to try learning a new language for enjoyment and cultural insight.

This course covers general topics such as:

  • get to know people; where they come from
  • use of preposition to talk about a city, en France, au Canada, à Melbourne
  • use of preposition to locate a place: sur, sous, dans
  • use of other articles: à la, à l’, au, aux, de l’, de la, du, des
  • introduction and use of the verb aller, venir & prendre
  • use of negation: ne … pas
  • use of demonstrative adjectives: ce, cet, cette, ces
  • use of qu’est-ce-que or est-ce-que to ask questions
  • express means of transport

By the end of this course the student will be able to:

  • name countries and towns using the right article
  • name and locate places in a city
  • use of preposition to indicate location of things
  • talk about different types of accommodation
  • say where you live and come from
