Course Summary

Learn flower arranging using traditional techniques. This course will introduce participants to flower identification, preparation and maintenance techniques. Students will use a mixture of flowers and foliage’s which are widely available and used by floral designers.

FLORISTRY COURSE CONTENTS:

  • Learn flower arranging in a variety of styles using both traditional and contemporary techniques.
  • You will be introduced to flower identification and preparation techniques
  • Learn how maintenance techniques and how to extend the life and quality of your arrangement
  • Use a mixture of flowers and foliage’s which are widely available and used by floral designers
  • Learn about focal flowers, secondary flowers filler flowers, and foliage in seasonal varieties
  • Ideas for other arrangements will be workshopped and demonstrated
  • Hands on work where you explore different techniques and find your own personal style

COURSE OUTCOMES:

Participants will be able to use these skills to make arrangements for the home. Course format is demonstration followed by practical exercises. Students will create up to three arrangements such as a table centre piece, a modern design and a bouquet/posy. The course will also provide practical experience and inspiration for students considering longer-term studies in floristry.

WHO IS THIS FLORISTRY COURSE SUITED FOR?

The course will assist people wishing to gain skills to be able to arrange flowers more effectively for hobby and the home environment, as well as assisting them in ways to improve their practice autonomously. The course will assist people considering a career in floristry by giving them an insight to the industry. It is not designed as an entry into employment in the industry as more extensive training and investigation would need to be undertaken.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Please bring along a towel, pen, notepad and flower snips.  All other vessels and flower materials are provided.

During the course you will have 3 arrangements to transport home, please condsider this when organising transport.

This class is delivered at Ola Cohn Centre 41-43 Gipps St East Melbourne. You may wish to bring your own lunch and drinks as there are not many shops nearby.

Jemina’s experience in corporate and wedding floristry earned her the community vote of Best Wedding Flowers in the Mornington Peninsula, and since then she has worked major events such as Melbourne Flower and Garden Show, The Grand Prix and Spring Racing Carnival. Her wedding flowers has been featured in Channel 9’s Who’s the Bride and Melbourne Bride Magazine. Jemina taught floristry at the Whitelaw School of Flowers and currently teaches at Box Hill Institute and the CAE.
