Course Summary

Arabic Elementary 3 is designed as the next step for students who have completed Arabic Elementary 2, continuing to use the textbook “Mastering Arabic 1.” This course further advances students’ proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic by deepening their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will tackle more complex grammatical structures, broaden their vocabulary, and engage with longer and more sophisticated texts and conversations. By the end of the course, learners will be able to communicate with greater accuracy and confidence across a wider range of everyday and cultural topics.

Course Objectives and Structure

  • Focus on Four Core Skills
  • Continues to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities with increased emphasis on fluency and comprehension.
  • Builds on the script, vocabulary, and grammar covered in previous levels, introducing more challenging language structures and authentic contexts.
  • Progressive and Practical Approach
  • Lessons are structured to reinforce previous knowledge while introducing new content, ensuring a smooth progression toward intermediate proficiency.
  • Activities and exercises are drawn from “Mastering Arabic 1,” including extended reading passages, audio, and video resources to support independent and classroom learning.
  • Expanded Cultural Exploration: Explores a broader range of cultural topics, highlighting social customs, traditions, and everyday life in Arabic-speaking countries.
  • Encourages students to reflect on cultural differences and similarities through language.

Topics Covered

  • Engaging in detailed conversations about travel, health, education, leisure, and daily routines.
  • Navigating real-life situations such as shopping, making appointments, giving and following directions, and expressing opinions.
  • Reading and discussing longer dialogues, short stories, and informational texts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of Arabic Elementary 3, students will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in a variety of familiar and some unfamiliar situations using a broader vocabulary and more complex grammar.
  • Understand and produce longer, more detailed spoken and written texts, including letters, narratives, and descriptions.
  • Apply advanced sentence structures, including compound and complex sentences.
  • Use strategies to comprehend, interpret, and respond to authentic Arabic materials, such as news snippets, advertisements, and short articles.
  • Participate actively in conversations, expressing preferences, opinions, and feelings with increased confidence.
  • Demonstrate a deeper understanding of the cultural contexts in which Arabic is used.

This course is ideal for students who have completed the first  two levels and wish to continue developing their Arabic language skills using the same textbook.
