Course Summary

Learn how to make a pattern from an existing garment. Bring your favourite simple pieces, such as a skirt, shirt or a simple dress and turn them into your own pattern so you can re-create that favourite garment time and time again.

With comprehensive demonstrations showing the basic methods for transferring garment panels onto pattern paper, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge onto their own patterns under supervision and with expert guidance. Students will develop skills including the use of tracing wheels, locating the straight grain of fabric on each garment panel, fitting together pattern pieces as they are being produced, this will all be achieved with the completion of the students pattern.

There are no prerequisites for this class, however students should have some experience of sewing and using patterns. Ideally suited to sewers who are looking to make perfect fitting patterns for themselves. This course is best suited to students who have some experience of sewing and using patterns.
