Course Summary

The home for this diverse Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) program is our city campus right near the iconic cafe precinct of Degraves St and Flinders Lane, just a short walk from Flinders Street Station and other public transport. The VCE at Box Hill Insitute caters for students of all ages.  The student cohort includes those who wish to move from a secondary school environment to a more individual adult learning environment, as well as adults returning to study as mature age learners to complete their secondary school qualifications.

This course gives you the ability to complete Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Victorian Certificate of Education in an adult environment and prepares you for further study in a wide variety of fields. You can choose to study from a range of subjects in English, Science, Maths, Business, Law and Humanities.

VCE will also be delivered at the Nelson Campus in Box Hill. The curriculum has been curated to support students returning to study after a gap in their education. Only four Year 12 subjects will be offered at the Box Hill Nelson Campus: English, Psychology, Sociology and Business Management.

In 2027, VCE will be delivered on line for Year 12 students only. The curriculum has been chosen to support students returning to study or those that cannot attend classes face-to-face on campus. The Year 12 subject choices  available online are: English, General Mathematics, Psychology, Legal studies, Business Management and Sociology.

All course information and resources are accessed via the learning management system, StudentWeb and you will be guided through the information about topics for the week by a highly skilled and experienced team of teachers. Opportunities for additional learning support in one on one, group session or online session with experienced Learning Support Officers or your subject can be scheduled for targeted learning when required.

Please note: students undertaking this course will be enrolled at the Box Hill Institute (RTO 4687), City campus (CAE). Upon completion, you will receive certification from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

Successfully completing your VCE with us will provide you with a pathway into a wide variety of diploma and degree courses offered through Box Hill Institute. These courses include:

After successful completion, you can also apply through VTAC for entry into a wide variety of degree, diploma and certificate courses offered at other institutions in Victoria and throughout Australia.

General VCE - 16 units

  • students must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of course commencement and have completed the pre-training assessment for literacy and numeracy.
  • students under 18 must bring a copy of their latest school report/s or documentation related to any other courses undertaken such as a VASS report.
  • students under 17 must bring a copy of their latest school report/s and are required to supply a Transition from School (TFS) form, which must be completed and signed off by the school Principal and the Department of Education Regional Office. TFS forms are available from the Department of Education website and must be signed prior to commencement of the course.

Adult VCE - 8 units

  • you must be at least 18 years of age on 1 January of the enrolment year and you must have been out of full time secondary school for at least 12 months to satisfy the Adult VCE criteria.

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a senior secondary certificate of education recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

  • Full time: 1 year (adult: 18 years and over)
  • Full time: 2 years (youth: under 18 years)
  • Part time: 2 - 4 years

 

Direct entry

This training is provided with funds made available by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.

VCE classes commence Monday February 1, 2027. Late enrolments must commence no later than Monday February 8, 2027.

A general (Youth) VCE requires completion of 16 units, which must include: three units from the English group, where at least two of the units are a Unit 3 & Unit 4 sequence plus at least three sequences of Unit 3 and 4 subjects from studies other than English and at least three sequences of Unit 1 and 2 subjects from studies other than English.

An adult VCE minimum requirement is 8 units i.e. two units from the Unit 3 and 4 English group, plus, three sequences of Units 3 and 4 in studies other than English.

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) advises that satisfactory completion of both Units 3 and 4 of an English sequence is required for the calculation of a student’s Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
