Spanish for Travellers focuses on developing speaking and listening skills. There is no formal grammar teaching and little emphasis on reading or writing skills. The Spanish used is contemporary and colloquial. The course also offers insight into culture and protocol.

You will learn how to use appropriate expressions in the following contexts:

  • Meeting people: Introductions, questions, and small talk.
  • Transport & Directions: Asking for directions and using public transportation.
  • Accommodation: Booking, inquiries, and reporting issues.
  • Shopping & Money: Bargaining, inquiries, and currency exchanges.
  • Food & Drink: Ordering, dietary preferences, and feedback.
  • Entertainment & Sightseeing: Inquiries, ticket purchases, and expressing interest.
  • Health: Describing symptoms, seeking advice, and health vocabulary.
  • Weather: Inquiring, clothing recommendations, and expressing preferences.
  • Expressing Likes and Dislikes: Describing preferences, satisfaction, and polite criticism.
  • Solving Problems: Communicating difficulties, seeking assistance, and negotiating solutions.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Make requests and locate information related to transport at airports, train and bus terminals and taxi ranks.
  • Carry out transactions such as booking a hotel reservation, ordering meals in restaurants, currency exchange and buying tickets for traditional events.
  • Know what to do in emergency situations like going to hospital.
  • Read signs e.g.: at airports and on roads.
  • Understand the importance of cultural differences.

Prerequisites

This course is for beginners. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.
