Course Summary

In this class, the students will learn the basics  of drawing and painting with Pastels, including techniques and methods of the use of the medium, like: smudging, blending, layering and creating texture, and will be able to produce one or two finished artworks.

Students will receive individual attention by the teacher, through exercises and demonstrations explaining the techniques and special effects you can create with this vibrant medium.

COURSE CONTENTS:

Students will be presented with a series of simple exercises such as layering, smugging, blending, step by step building, mixing colours, etc., to understand the use and the technique of the medium, through demonstrations from the teacher. followed by a short colour theory and some reference about history and composition, to prepare the students to produce one or two or more paintings.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

By the end of the course, the students will have produced at list one finished drawing, or more, and will have developed an understanding and knowledge of the use of pastels and the different tecniques, and the ability to create colouful effects and vibrant results.

WHO IS THIS PASTEL DRAWING CLASS SUITED FOR?

Students with some knowledge in drawing and/or painting in any media, beginners are also welcome.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Please bring the following to class:

  • Pastels:  Box of 12 or 24 or bigger, mixed colours, (price range: $17/$30 approx.)
    Mungyo, Mont Mart or similar. Other brands, such as Art Spectrum, Rembrand, Fabriano, Schmincke, Sennelier are more expensive, but better quality. Price range: $50/$70 or more for a set.
  • Kneadable Eraser

Paper will be provided.

There is 2 hour parking available in proximity to the Ola Cohn Centre. You will be given opportunity during the course to move your vehicles.

Any notification of class cancellation will be advised within 48 hours, therefore you may prefer to wait and purchase your materials until the couple of days before the scheduled start day.

DELIVERED BY:

Farimah Eshraghi is a graduate of the Fine Arts Academy of Bologna (Italy), and holds a teaching degree (Dip-Ed) from Melbourne University.

As a professional Artist, Farimah has participated in National and International Art competitions, and has won numerous prizes and recognitions. She has held many solo Exhibitions and has been part of many group exhibitions, in Italy, Ecuador and Australia.

She is inspired by the Renaissance Masters, the Surrealists, the Futurists and her spiritual beliefs.

Farimah is a member of different Art Societies, including the Contemporary Arts Society, the Victorian Pastel Society , and her works are found in both private and public collections worldwide, including Italy, USA, Ecuador and Australia.

Farimah has been teaching Art for many years, different subjects and media, including Pastel, “one of my favorite media”, because of its versatility and immediate result.
