Students will learn how to make their own paper from off-cuts, scrap paper and plant fibres. We will explore the various surface qualities possible within papermaking: fine, smooth papers, layered, textured papers, sized and unsized, as well as dyed.

Students will:
– Learn how to use, and experiment with, paper making tools
– Experiment with basic pulp papermaking techniques
– Learn the different techniques to produce and colour paper
– Explore patterns on paper

Students will make a set of papers to take away with them and will gain the skills and knowledge to create their own paper studio at home.

Students will receive course notes that include a range of recipes so that they may continue their recycling papermaking journey at home.

Please bring an apron, plastic bowl or tub, notebook & pencil as well as any dried flowers or plant fibres you would like to experiment with.

No previous experience required. Ideal for anyone with an interest in beautiful and original papers. This course is also designed to encourage recycling in the home and is ideal for families who would like to learn about recycling paper and share this activity at home. This course would be a good course to do alongside CAE’s bookmaking courses.
