Course Summary

You will learn how to:

  •  Create an effective design appropriate for silver work
  •  Add texture with hammers and stamps
  •  Hand cut and drill holes into metal sheet
  •  Make your own bespoke earring hooks
  •  File, sand and polish silver

Course Outcomes:

  •  Produce a unique pair of silver drop earrings of your own creation
  •  Gain an understanding of basic jewellery tools and processes

Material Requirements:

Silver is provided to make your pair of silver earrings. 

Please bring along a pen and paper. 

For safety reasons, please wear covered toe shoes (no sandals) and bring an apron or shirt to protect your clothes. Long hair must be tied back.

 

Delivered By:

TASSIA JOANNIDES is an interdisciplinary artist who works across the fields of art, craft and design. Tassia completed her Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at Monash University in 2014, specialising in gold and silver smithing. Following this she moved to Adelaide where she worked for four years at JamFactory Contemporary Craft & Design as part of the metal studio design team, producing large and small scale projects including public art and jewellery collections. She returned to Melbourne in 2010 to undertake her PhD in Art at RMIT, which was completed in 2017. Tassia currently works as an educator in short courses at CAE, as well as a lecturer at RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles, and School of Art.
