Be introduced to the process of developing and printing relief prints using Duraloid lino; a lino specifically designed for artists. We will explore block preparation, designing and transferring your image, carving techniques, paper handling and printing. Printing without the use of a press will also be included. No experience necessary.

Very much a hands-on course you will be introduced to the techniques of Linocuts by the highly experienced and successful artist and printmaker, Dr Anne Bennett.

Working in a studio environment learn and understand relief printing and linocut techniques, including Lino block preparation, cutting techniques, paper handling, how to use a press and edition a number of small relief prints. All the while discussing different approaches to this technique adopted by range of artists, Anne will highlight ways you can realise your own creative ideas using the simple yet powerful medium of linocuts.

This course will enable an outcome of producing 3 limited editioned prints. Students will leave with knowledge on materials, suppliers, local print workshops and how to print from home.

Dr Anne Bennett is an experienced visual artist, curator and educator. Anne, whose practice encompasses drawing, printmedia, painting, artists books, and curatorial projects, holds a PhD in Visual Art from Monash University and Master of Art Curatorship from the University of Melbourne.

She has held in excess of 15 solo exhibitions since 1986 including Tolarno Galleries, Pinacotheca, numerous institutional galleries around Australia and an exhibition of large scale monotypes at the Post Office Gallery at Federation University, Ballarat and a performative installation of drawings at The Front, Docklands. She has also participated in excess of 70 group exhibitions, including curated shows at National Gallery of Victoria and galleries in Korea, China, Lithuania and UK.

There is no prerequisite for enrolling in this course. No previous experience is necessary.

Please bring to class:

*Apron to protect daywear,

*Box of latex gloves or pair of nitrile rubber gloves (available hardware stores),

*Permanent black marker,

*Pencils,

*White pastel,

*Colour pencils or watercolours (optional)

*Some references i.e. photos, drawings, ideas, plus a notebook and pen for jotting down information provided in class.

 

Note: Printing Materials (cutting tools, printing paper, ink) are included in the course cost.
