Course Summary

This course covers everything needed to get started with Final Cut Pro X (10). Topics include ingesting material, editing, trimming, adding titles, transitions and effects, mixing audio, managing projects and media, outputting digital media. With a ‘hands on’ approach, participants will work with several styles of footage.

  • Organising workspace and projects
  • Marking and Editing Clips
  • Editing in the Timeline
  • Using FCP tools
  • Learning shortcuts
  • Adding Transitions and Filters
  • Modifying Clip Speed
  • Importing Music, Sound & Graphics
  • Adding Titles
  • Mixing Audio
  • Outputting/Sharing to QuickTime and Social Media

Participants will work with drama, documentary & TV Commercial footage to create 3 x edited projects. Skills attained include creating titles, transitions and a simple layered composition. They will acquire the ability to mix and edit audio, apply FCP effects, including an introduction to colour correction. Export a video file for internet distribution.

Shaun Smith has worked in the film industry since the mid 1980s in various crew, producing and post production roles in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. He's worked as an editor and assistant editor for the past 20 years on a wide range of projects with subjects and clients ranging from HBO to Chopper Read. Feature films include The Eye of the Storm, Kath and Kimderella plus TV drama series, Wentworth and the ABC Documentary, Sidney Nolan.

**PLEASE NOTE: Final Cut Pro is Apple Mac only software.

Basic computer skills essential. Apple Mac experience an advantage, but not essential.

Notepad and pen. Examples of your own footage for review and discussion.

This course is targeted at those who are looking to develop skills in video and audio editing or multimedia software.

Please note that Final Cut Pro X is Mac only software. This course is run using Apple Mac computers.
