Greek: Elementary 6 is an 18-hour course designed for beginners who wish to develop their speaking, reading and listening skills. It offers an insight into Greek culture. The content is presented in an accessible and non-threatening way and opportunities are constantly provided for students to communicate in Modern Greek.

Communication Topics:

  • Talking about the past
  • What you like doing and what you have to do
  • Talking about what you can do


  • Consolidation of the declensions of adjectives and their different uses
  • Consolidation of the use of the ‘subjunctive’
  • Expansion on simple past tense with regular and irregular verbs
  • Introduction of regular verbs in past imperfect tense

On completion of Greek Elementary 6 students will be:

  • able to use simple and continuous past tense in order to refer and describe past everyday events
  • competent in saying what they like doing and what they have to do
  • competent in saying what they can do

Greek: Elementary 5 or the equivalent of about 90 hours of study. Prospective students should be able to understand and converse in Modern Greek on general simple topics such as family life, shopping, transport, meeting and describing people. They should have already formed sound knowledge of the written and spoken Greek alphabet and the use of basic verbs and nouns. Students should also be familiar with contracted verbs, adjectives and possessives.
