Course Summary

This is an 22-hour beginners’ course ideal for people who want a basic introduction to the language and culture and who would like to communicate with friends, family members, colleagues and people in the community.

Elementary:  Levels 1 to 6

Understands and communicates simple personal and work-related messages.

Intermediate: 1 – 4

Understands and communicates any important information both in writing and orally.

Advanced: 1 – 4

–  Can understand, communicate and put into practice standard information both in everyday life and work related situations.

–  Puts complex information into practice, both in everyday life and in work situations, presentations and meetings.

Proficient: 1 – 4

Expert: 1 – 6

This course covers the following topics:

  • Greetings and Introductions;
  • The German alphabet;
  • Numbers 1-1000;
  • Nationality, profession, civil state;
  • Interests, hobbies;
  • Household furniture and appliances and faults;
  • Food and drinks;
  • Shopping.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • introduce yourself and others;
  • spell your names;
  • engage in simple conversations and exchange personal information about nationality and profession;
  • count up to 1,000 and add up sums of money;
  • use simple German to talk about interests and hobbies;
  • order drinks and foods in a cafe or restaurant;
  • shop for furniture and appliances; indicate faults;
  • have an understanding and appreciation of the values and customs of German-speaking communities;
  • read and write a short simple dialogue.


If you have had some previous exposure to the language, you need to contact CAE for a free skill assessment prior to enrolling.

N.B. CAE withdrawal policy does not allow for refund or transfer once the course has started in the event that the level of the class is not suitable.
