Course Summary

French Intermediate 1 covers speaking, listening, reading and writing tasks with a focus on vocational and applied language. The course content has been selected to suit prospective travellers and people wanting to interact socially with the French community in Melbourne or in French speaking countries. The course is presented in an accessible and non-threatening way and opportunities are constantly provided to communicate in French. Cross-cultural understanding is an important aspect of the course.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Daily life;
  • Household tasks;
  • Modern music;
  • Art and museums;
  • Asking and giving opinions;
  • Expressing aims and goals;
  • Comparing and evaluating;
  • Publicity;
  • Ongoing grammar and pronunciation work.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Engage in simple conversations and exchange information about studies, work, leisure activities, and interests;
  • Describe their daily tasks;
  • Talk about modern French music trends;
  • Ask and give opinions on works of art, film and books ;
  • Express their aims and goals;
  • Formulate questions;
  • Read advertisements;
  • Give an evaluation and make comparisons;
  • Read and write an email giving opinions.

French Elementary 6 or about 100 hours of previous study.

IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.
