Dutch: Elementary 1 (New)

How to pronounce that g-sound? Why are Duchies so direct? How do I introduce myself? We help you to say more than just “hallo…” and teach you how ask some questions, provide you with skills to do some small talk and help you chat with your relatives, partner, colleagues or random strangers in Dutch.

Dutch Elementary 1 is an 18-hour course designed for beginners who wish to learn to how to have a basic conversation in Dutch.

This course provides a solid introduction to talk about several topics based on the culture and the news in the Netherlands. It will prepare students to use simple Dutch with confidence in everyday situations. Listening and speaking skills are taught and the essentials of grammar will be revisited.

This course focuses on speaking and listening, so you can communicate effectively on everyday topics, such as

• Introducing yourself
• Talk about your family
• Talking about drinks and food

Grammar explanations are integrated with oral activities.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

• Ask and answer questions about yourself and others and use basic expressions for meeting, greeting and saying farewell
• engage in simple conversations to exchange information about nationalities, languages, professions
• talk about an everyday situation
• demonstrate basic knowledge of some cultural and social customs
• Know how to use: verbs and pronouns, modal auxiliary verbs, questions and question words, numbers and measures, telling the time, articles and nouns

This course is suited to absolute beginners.

Practice makes perfect in acquiring any new skills. CAE language teachers provide many opportunities in class for conversation practice to build fluency and confidence.

Students are encouraged to participate in class activities, furthering skills in both speaking and listening. It is highly recommended that they devote at least 2 hours per week to study outside class time. 

Students are also encouraged to read, listen to radio programs and watch TV programs in the language whenever possible
