Reading, Writing, Science & Maths

Our literacy program can help you improve your literacy and numeracy in a friendly and supportive adult environment. You can study part time or fulltime, day or evening. Classes range from beginner to year 10 equivalent. You can develop reading, writing, spelling and maths skills for life and work. You can study science, computing and build confidence.

These courses are for adults who want to improve their skills for work or personal development; for people who left school early, or missed out on primary or secondary education; adults who want to prepare for further study, such as a vocational certificate or Year 11, perhaps after a long break from formal education.

A limited number of classes cater specifically for adults with a mild intellectual disability. Some classes may involve excursions. Most of the assessment is competency based, involving class activities, assignments, discussions and teacher observation. All students will need to do some out of class work.

Skills Recognition

Skills Recognition allows for students to have previous formal and informal study, work and life experience taken into account for the course in which they are enrolling. CAE Staff can assess your existing skills through a recognition process. This process determines whether or not you are already competent in some of the subject areas or competences covered in the course. CAE's Skills Recognition information sheet outlines the requirements in more detail.
