The learning resource to be used at this level is divided in several sections to ensure that you have an introduction to the subject area to be discussed, an area to enforce reading and comprehension, a section to practice and communicate a grammar section and the last section to introduce you to cultural insight of the language.

At this level, topics will include:

  • Essential Spanish skills as a traveller: You will learn how to introduce yourself, to express basic activities and interests while interacting with other people in a real life situation specially to say where do you want to go and what would you like to do. You will be able to ask for and to describe places and to talk about the weather.
  • Basic writing skills: You will acquire basic grammatical principles so you can put in into practice in specific contexts
  • ‘Dos’ and ‘don’ts’ for culturally aware travellers as differences amongst the various Spanish speaking countries are discussed

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • introduce yourself and others and use basic expressions for meeting, greeting and saying farewell;
  • engage in simple conversations to exchange information about;
  • nationalities, professions;
  • what you do at work or in your daily routine and express intentions;
  • use basic expressions for asking about the language;
  • describe places, areas of interests in those places and locating them;
  • ask and talk about the weather;
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of some cultural and social customs;

Also you will be able to:

  • know the alphabet, numbers up to 100;

  • use present tense of regular verbs to narrate something;
  • conjugate verbs such as ser, tener and llamarse;
  • express existence “there is”;
  • know some prepositions, how to use them and verbs that use them;
  • use of determine and undetermined articles for feminine and masculine nouns;
  • formulate questions: What? Which? How much? How many? When? Where? Who? And to ask about quantities.

None.

Practice makes perfect in acquiring any new skills. At CAE your teacher will provide many opportunities in the class for conversation practice to build confidence and fluency in the language.

Outside the classroom, you will be encouraged devote at least 2 hours per week to study outside class time.
You will be provided with some strategies/activities to reinforce what you are learning and to discover new words and real life situations. You will be also encouraged, whenever possible, to read, listen to radio programs and watch TV programs in Spanish!
