In this one day hands-on work shop, you will learn how to start, operate and promote a B&B. Discover how to register your business, food handling and insurance requirements, financials and business planning. You will also learn about kitchen and bedroom set up, working with suppliers, marketing, promotional material, sales, guest relations and management.

• Terms and conditions, deposits, refunds, cancellation policies
• Effective marketing of your business

As part of this course, you will also receive a copy of ‘A Guide to Establishing and Managing an Accommodation Business in Australia

This comprehensive guide has been produced by the national peak industry organisation for bed and breakfasts, farmstays, guest houses and quality self-contained accommodation. The Guide is written in the form of a useful manual with contact details and website addresses provided for relevant organisations and government departments.

• Setting up and maintaining your accommodation

• Tariff setting, cancellation policies etc.

Running a Bed and Breakfast

Liz Pryor has been involved in the bed and breakfast and farmstay tourism industry sector since 1998. She and her husband run an accommodation business and in her role as the Executive Officer of the national peak industry organisation, Hosted Accommodation Australia Ltd (HAA), Liz regularly assists people seeking to set up a bed and breakfast.  HAA’s publication A Guide to Establishing and Managing an Accommodation Business in Australia forms the course notes for registrants.
