Course Summary

An understanding of Latin and its literature is important for an appreciation of European culture. In this course students learn to read this ancient and beautiful language and find their way into the history and culture of Ancient Rome. It covers the basics of Latin grammar and vocabulary and a little more! The emphasis is on reading.

Students continue with their learning of Latin noun and verb forms, learn about Latin adjectives in positive, comparative and superlative forms, and also pronoun forms. They practise reading and translating more complex Latin text and writing Latin sentences employing the new grammatical forms they have learned.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • read and translate basic Latin text
  • compose their own sentences in Latin.

Latin 1 or equivalent of about 20 hours of previous study.
