Course Summary

This course is suitable for people who have a very good knowledge of French and who have the ability to speak, understand, read and write French on a wide range of topics. It is ideal for those who wish to spend time in French-speaking countries in work-related, social or travel situations. Students read about, discuss and debate issues of 21st century society and culture. Grammar can be revised and written work is encouraged. The course affords an ideal leisure activity and creates the opportunity to share similar goals and interests with others in the class.

The course covers a wide range of topical subjects:

  • Politics, political figures and parties
  • Art, museums, expos
  • New technologies, scientific and medical discoveries
  • Film, theatre, literature
  • Sport
  • Fashion
  • Changes in language
  • Media
  • Cuisine
  • Social issues such as problems of smoking, drugs, alcohol etc.

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Converse spontaneously on a wide range of topics using a range of vocabulary and complex language structures
  • Read and comprehend a broad spectrum of texts and write various text types (e.g. letters, reports, articles, emails.)

500 hours of previous study, VCE or IB French.

F YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.

N.B. CAE withdrawal policy does not allow for refund or transfer once the course has started in the event that the level of the class is not suitable.
